Thank you for explaining what a scenic carpenter does for the theater. My brother wants to get into theater more as a stagehand. How would he go about finding someone that hires out stagehands?

Important to know there are a whole lot of us that never were actors and never wanted to be actors.
I started off as a tech, went to school for tech, and make my living as a tech. Never once have I wanted to be in the light

I worked for 40 years as a scenic carpenter, mostly in IATSE Local One, mostly for television.
If you’re going to work in television, you’d be wise to hone your skills in the world of laminates-wood, plastic, metal, etc.
We were always looking for skilled people in the shops where I worked.
The pay is good and the benefits are great if you work in a union shop.
Union shops are open to anybody with the skillsets needed.
You must be willing to work hard and show up on time.
(By the way, I was also an actor who fell in love with tech theater. If nothing else, it was nice to know I’d have a steady paycheck.)
