Happy Halloween! Are you ready for another Theatre Nerds DIY? Today we will be making our very own Addam’s Family: Cousin It Candy Jar-just in time for the spooky holidays!

Lets get started:

What you will need:

-Mason Jar
-Tiny Hat (Found at Joann’s Fabrics in the doll section)
-Tan Yarn
-Scissors
-Sticky Black Felt
-Tape

To begin we will start by making our hair! Lay out a strip of tape 12″ long sticky side up. Using smaller strips of tape, hold down the strip so it doesn’t move. With your yarn, begin to loop the yarn back and forth about 6 inches long. Place the yarn as low as you can on the tape to help make a smaller band later on. Keep the yarn as tight as you can to each other for a fuller look. Once you have reached the end, take your scissors, and cut the loops, not attached to the tape to make them singular strands. After they have all been cut, fold your tape over onto itself to sandwich the yarn. Cut off the excess tape for a thinner strip. Since we need to wrap the mason jar completely, repeat these steps until you have 10 strips of hair!

Now that you have your hair, we can begin to attach them to the jar! Starting from the bottom, place the first strip of hair around the jar into the desired placement. Once it has been positioned, tape each end together and secure onto the jar. Continue to repeat this pattern all the way up to the top of the jar. Once you have reached the neck of the mason jar, take your extra yarn and wrap it around to cover it up completely.

Now it’s time to make Cousin It’s sunglasses! Using your sticky backed felt, flip it over so the backing is facing up. Draw out a pair of sunglasses and cut them out. Remove the backing and place onto the yarn/mason jar where his eyes should be.

Lastly, once everything has been put together, place your favorite candies and treats inside of the jar. You are now ready to add his final element, his hat to seal the deal! Now you not only have a fun new jar, but a great halloween decoration to add to your collection!

We hope you had fun doing this DIY with us! Please like, comment and share if you participated by making this Addam’s Family DIY!

Have a fun and safe Halloween & happy crafting!

Welcome back to another Theatre Nerds DIY! Today we will be doing a Mean Girls Burn Book (bag)!

What You’ll Need:

-pink tote bag (or any color, then paint pink)

-black and white fabric

-Black, white and red puffy paint

-Scissors

-fabric glue

-Burn Book photo reference

Instructions:

To begin, rip small, varying sizes of the black and white fabric. It helps to get an image reference online of what the real Burn Book looks like. Have enough scraps for each letter to spell out “Burn Book”. Once you have your eight pieces, begin to write in each letter onto each piece. Using the photo, you’ll be able to get specific details of each unique letter. Once you have done this, put the letters to the side to dry. Puffy paint takes up to 4 hours to completely settle, place them in the sun to speed up the process!

While your lettering are drying, bring out your black puffy paint to begin to do the detailing on the bag. Since most of it is scribbling, the combination of photo referencing as well as just having fun will do the job! Allow everything to dry for 4 hours!

Once your lettering and bag has dried, you can finally place your “Burn Book” letters in place. Once they are positioned in your ideal spot, go ahead and take your glue, and adhere the fabric to the tote bag.

For the finale touch, we will find center between “Burn” and “book” to place our iconic lipstick kiss. Using your puffy paint, draw out an simple lip smack to finish off the look!

Once everything is dry, you are now able to flaunt your new Mean Girls bag around town! We can’t wait for it to open on Broadway this month.

Hope you all enjoyed another Theatre Nerds DIY-if you have any suggestions, please leave a comment below!

Welcome back to another Theatre Nerds DIY! In this video we will be creating the rose from Beauty and the Beast. Hope you guys enjoy, and please don’t forget to leave comments and suggestions for future projects you would like to see.

What You Need:

-Bell Jar (I purchased mine at Ikea with the option of gold of wood base)

-x2 Roses (One that will go inside the jar, another that will be used for extra petals and leafs)

-Scissors

-Hot Glue

-Green Clay

-Battery powered fairy lights

Instructions:

First, measure your rose to your bell jar and make sure you leave some room so it can be bent to give it its welting look. Cut the excess stem and put to the side. If your flower has too many leafs, trim to your liking.

From the extra rose, cut off some petals that will be placed at the base of the jar. Adhere them to the base with hot glue.

Once the rose is the correct size, create a small mound of clay in the center of the base and place the stem inside it. Stabilize the rose on the base while placing the glass overtop. For added fun, take your fairy lights and wrap them around the base of the bell jar.

After the lights have been wrapped, you are all done and have finished your very own Beauty and the Beast rose!

Hope you all enjoyed this tutorial! Send and tag us in photos of your own rose.

Alphabet stickers-1 inch (any color you’d like! We used gold)

Instructions:

Welcome back to another Theatre Nerds DIY. In this tutorial we will be making a Seasons of Love clock from one of our favorite musicals-Rent! To create this Rent clock, you will have to start by getting a clock. You can purchase one at either target or your local thrift store. If the face of the clock has numbers on it, you will need to remove the backing and separate the pieces. Once you have done that, take your white acrylic paint and begin to cover the face of the clock. It may take a couple coats so go ahead and use a hairdryer to speed up the process until it is completely white and dry.

After you have completed this step, take your 1 inch alphabet stickers and begin to write out your message. Starting at the top, begin with mapping out “525,600”. Following that, start at where the 9 would be located and begin to place the letters down to write out “seasons of love”. Once that is complete, finish your Rent clock by centering the word “minutes” between the hands of the clock. After all of your lettering’s have been place, go ahead and place the glass and backing back on your clock and you are all finished! Just pop in some batteries and you got yourself your very own Rent clock!

Welcome back to another Theatre Nerds DIY project!

Today we will be making a No-Sew Pie Pillows, inspired by our beloved show, Waitress!

To begin this project, what you will need is:

Scissors

Pencil

Ruler

Glue (you can use both fabric glue, or hot glue)

Pom Poms

Felt (light brown, brown, red and blue)

Stuffing

Instructions:

*In the tutorial I only showed working on one pillow, if you care to make more than one, just repeat the same process!*

1. We will start off by measuring out on our light brown felt, a 12 inch circle to create as the body of the pie. You will need to make two of these, as these pieces will become the pouch to make the pillow.

2. Using your fabric glue, glue 3/4 of the two light brown felt pieces together. We want to leave a hole to later fill with stuffing. Allow the pieces to sit to the side and dry.

3. After making our pie crust, take your “pie filling” color of your choosing (in the video I made a red cherry pie) and measure out an 11 inch circle. This piece will sit inside of the pie crust we just made. Once that is cut out, adhere the filling piece to the crust and let dry.

4. To make the top crust pieces, we will be taking our darker brown felt pieces, and creating strips to later weave together. I used 8 strips per pie, however you can make yours smaller, or bigger-to your liking.

5. Once the pillow has finished drying, take your brown strips and begin to weave them together using the over under method. Once you have completed this, go ahead and glue the pieces to the top piece of felt and let dry.

6. For fun decoration, take your pom poms (berries for us) and decorate the top of the pie as you see fit. This gives it a fun and cute flare! Glue the pom poms onto the desired area and set it to the side.

7. Make sure your pillow is completely dry before beginning the stuffing process. Using your own personal preferences, fill the pillow to your desired need, without filling it too much and popping the seams. Once you have filled your pillow, carefully glue the small hole closed to complete the pillow.

And there it is! An adorable, no-sew pie pillow! This will get any sweet tooth jealous of your delicious taste and skills.

Thank you for watching!

What you will need:

White paint

Brown paint

Gold paint

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

White pencil

Paint Brushes

Laptop Case

Instructions:

First, you will want to start by painting both edges of the case gold to create the golden ticket. Paint both sides about 2 inches wide. After finishing, allow it to completely dry.

Using the Wonka Bar logo as reference, take your white pencil and begin to trace out the font of the label of the candy bar onto the laptop case. This will help create a guideline for us later.

After you have drawn your complete “Wonka Bar” label, plug in your hot glue gun and begin to trace and fill it in completely. Helpful tip: Use a Popsicle stick to help smooth out the hot glue. Please be careful while using the hot glue gun, they can get extremely hot.

Once your Wonka Bar has been completely filled in, allow it to dry completely.

Onto the painting! We will be breaking down each section into different colors. “Wonka” will be in white, “Bar” in gold, and Mr.Wonka’s hat will be painted brown.

Paint each section in their correct color until it is completely covered. Set aside so it can completely dry.

After the laptop case has dried, you are done! You are ready to show off your new laptop case to all of your friends. But be careful, you may forever crave chocolate when you carry this around.

And don’t forget, you are more than welcome to take creative freedom of this project-switch up colors, different font-whatever YOU want! It is your project! Have fun!

In this tutorial we will be making Hamilton pins and key chains!

For this project you will need:

Shrink Film (super sanded)

Scissors

Glue

Hole Punch

Flat Pins

Key Rings

Permanent Markers

Printable PDF (attached in the description)

See below this post for recommended products

Instructions:

1. Begin your project by printing out your reverse copy of Hamilton pins/key chains.

Download Here

2. With your super sanded Shrink Film, place shiny side face down, sanded side face up.

3. Using your permanent markers, begin tracing and filling in your images. You are free to use whatever colors you’d like, or design your own pins and key chains!

4. Once dried, begin cutting out your images. For the pins, make sure you are cutting as close as you can to the lines. When making a key chain, allow yourself some extra space to punch a hole in BEFORE you bake them in the oven.

5. After cutting out your pins and key chains, turn your oven to 350°. With a small cookie sheet lined with either non-stick aluminum foil, baking paper, or thin cardboard, place your images in small groups with distance from one another so they do not touch. Make sure the pieces are shiny face DOWN, sanded side UP.

Warning, please be careful, the oven and cookie sheets are very hot. if you are under the age of 13, please ask an adult for help*

6. Allow them to bake for 2-3 minutes. They will curl up at first, but will lay flat again, so do not take them out before then. After the 3 minutes have passed, take your shrunk Hamilton art out of the oven, and with a spatula, lightly flatten them if they are slightly curled. Once cooled remove them from the cookie sheet.

7. After everything is completely cooled, you are now ready to attach your pins and key rings! With the key rings, simply open the ring and insert it into the hole you created before baking. For the pins, take the flat backing of the pin with a dab of glue (hot glue, E600, etc) and place on the sanded side of your art. Allow the glue to dry completely before using.

Finished!

Once everything has dried, you are now ready to wear your pins on your clothes, backpack or favorite Hamilton shirt! Don’t forget to clip on your key chain as well!

Share with us your version of Hamilton Key Chains and Pins on our Facebook and Instagram page. We can’t wait to see what you have done!

The Materials! For this project, all you will need is:

Paint Pens (can be purchased at any craft store-you may use any combination
of colors that you like)

Clear Phone Case (Sold in stores, but cheaper on Amazon. All phone types available)

See below this post for recommended products

Instructions:

1. Begin creating your “Waving Through A Window” window by shaping out the frame. Put the phone to the side to allow the paint to dry.

2. Print a font you enjoy, or handwrite “waving through a window” onto paper. With that as a reference, create a mirrored image of the phrase to use to trace.

3. With your reversed writing, place your phone case facedown and begin to trace the writing onto the case. After you are finished and happy with your writing, allow it to dry.

4. Once your wording has dried, you may now finish creating your window but drawing in the rest of the crossbeams. You may also emphasis the windows by lining each box with a darker color.

5. Bonus! Find your favorite ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ Ben Platt image and print them out. You can choose whatever size appeals to you the most.

6. Cut out your little Ben Platt and place him inside your window. Once you adhere him to the case, and it has completely dried go ahead and finally clip on your new phone case. You are now ready to hit the town and show off your phone to all of your friends!

Share with us your version of your “waving through a window” phone case on our Facebook and Instagram page. We can’t wait to see what you have done.
