This happened to me in high school. I think it was my sophomore year and we were doing The Miracle Worker. My theater teacher had always told us if that ever happened to just talk louder and cancel out the noise.

At a performance of the revival of Pippin, and audience member let out a VERY loud sneeze. Things like this happen, it's life. Terrance Mann, as Charlemagne, turned to the audience said "Bless you my child" and then turned back to Matthew James Thomas as Pippin to continue the scene (when Pippin first returns to court after graduating.) The problem was they were both now lost. Took 20 seconds of laughing and talking to find their place, they picked up with the scene and went on.

This is why I love live theater, anything can happen.
