The basic definition of a dream role is you imagining your favourite Broadway actor/actress in a role they haven’t played. They are really fun to think of since you can end up creating the dream cast of your favourite shows. I started with roles for popular performers, mainly by looking at their voice types, to help you think about you’re favourite roles.
Leave your dream roles below, I really like seeing these things!
#1 Jeremy Jordan as Gabe from Next to Normal
Here we have one of the hottest Broadway actors with a wonderful tenor voice playing a character originally played by one of the hottest Broadway actors with a wonderful tenor voice. Not much left to say!
#2 Phillipa Soo as Cinderella from Into the Woods
Phillipa "Ray of sunshine" Soo is known for playing the strong Eliza Schuyler Hamilton in Hamilton, receiving a Tony nomination for her performance. Being a soprano, I would LOVE to see her step into the slippers as pure as gold of Kim Crosby, Laura Benanti and Anna Kendrick!
#3 Danny Burstein as Pseudolus from Forum
This may just be an excuse to get him a Tony Award since every original Broadway actor who has played Pseudolus has won a Tony and Danny has been nominated 5times and has never won BUT he has been very good comedic actor to follow in the shoes of Zero Mostel, Phil Silvers and Nathan Lane!
#4 Laura Benanti as Phoebe D’Ysquith from A Gentleman’s Guide
Phoebe is a character that needs a strong soprano voice behind her. Luckily, Tony Winner Laura Benanti has that, along with experience in the romantic musical theatre and the comedic side of it!
#5 Gavin Creel as King George III from Hamilton
Many talented actors have stepped into the rich shoes of King George including Tony nominees Johnathan Groff, Brian D'Arcy James and Andrew Rannels. Gavin has the vocals and charm to show that he'll be back!
#6 Jessie Mueller as Nellie Forbush
Nellie is one of the most iconic Rodgers and Hammerstein leading ladies. With some of the most well known songs in musical theatre, Tony-winner Jessie Mueller could really show off some musicality. Is there anything this woman can't do? Audiences would love to see Mueller as this cockeyed optimist!
#7 Jessie Mueller as Nellie Forbush
Nellie is one of the most iconic Rodgers and Hammerstein leading ladies. With some of the most well known songs in musical theatre, Tony-winner Jessie Mueller could really show off some musicality. Is there anything this woman can't do? Audiences would love to see Mueller as this cockeyed optimist!
#8 Grey Henson as Michael from Be More Chill
Okay, I know that George Salazar was much older than Grey when he played this role, but just imagine Grey's golden voice singing 'Michael In The Bathroom' and all of the emotion he'd put into it! I haven't seen Be More Chill yet, ( but I like the cast album! ) and I would definitely go see it if Grey was Michael.
#9 Erika Henningsen as Anna from Frozen The Musical
You may recognise Erika as Fantine and Cady Heron ( Mean Girls The Musical and Les Miserables. ) One of these characters is bubbly and inquisitive, and the other is very serious and can be solemn. Put these characteristics together and you get Anna from Frozen The Musical! Erika would make a perfect Anna.
