Welcome back to another Theatre Nerds DIY! In this video we will be creating the rose from Beauty and the Beast. Hope you guys enjoy, and please don’t forget to leave comments and suggestions for future projects you would like to see.

What You Need:

-Bell Jar (I purchased mine at Ikea with the option of gold of wood base)

-x2 Roses (One that will go inside the jar, another that will be used for extra petals and leafs)

-Scissors

-Hot Glue

-Green Clay

-Battery powered fairy lights

Instructions:

First, measure your rose to your bell jar and make sure you leave some room so it can be bent to give it its welting look. Cut the excess stem and put to the side. If your flower has too many leafs, trim to your liking.

From the extra rose, cut off some petals that will be placed at the base of the jar. Adhere them to the base with hot glue.

Once the rose is the correct size, create a small mound of clay in the center of the base and place the stem inside it. Stabilize the rose on the base while placing the glass overtop. For added fun, take your fairy lights and wrap them around the base of the bell jar.

After the lights have been wrapped, you are all done and have finished your very own Beauty and the Beast rose!

Hope you all enjoyed this tutorial! Send and tag us in photos of your own rose.

Happy DIY’ing-see you next time!

There has been a ton of anticipation about how the star-studded cast will handle the vocals required of such a movie, especially since it can sometimes seem like movie musicals feature anyone but famed musical theatre veterans (sorry, Russell Crowe).

However, “Beauty and the Beast” totally nails it with its supporting cast. Here are some familiar faces from Broadway and the West End that you can expect to see when you (finally) check out the live-action version of this beloved movie:

1. Josh Gad

Though people had mixed reactions to the casting of Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in this film, we can all agree that casting Josh Gad as LeFou was, in a word, perfect. This “Book of Mormon” star is also a Disney vet at this point, becoming a household name through his performance as “Olaf“ in “Frozen.” Check out Gad’s singing chops and pure hilarity in the song “Gaston.”

2. Audra McDonald

Does Audra McDonald even need to audition for her roles anymore? This dynamic lyric soprano is known for her performances in “Ragtime,” “A Raisin in the Sun” and “Porgy and Bess” but she’ll be knocking off more than socks as the Garderobe in this Disney classic. You may recognize her from the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff “Private Practice,” but you haven’t lived until you’ve heard her distinctive voice completely slay anything it touches. Just give the new tune “Aria” a listen and see for yourself.

3. Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor is a movie-musical veteran at this point; who could forget his stint as the lovestruck poet Christian in “Moulin Rouge?” In this film, you’ll catch him telling jokes and doing tricks with his fellow candlesticks as Lumière. Get ready to watch him prove that the greatest thing to ever learn is just to love and to be loved in return — surrounded by a castle full of singing kitchenware.

4. Luke Evans

Luke Evans will be a little more familiar to theatre nerds across the pond, as he starred in “Rent,” “Miss Saigon” and “Piaf” in the West End before he charmed America with his role in “Clash of the Titans.” Evans’ good looks and powerful voice will make you forget for half a second that he’s supposed to be the villain in this movie. In this role, he definitely goes to show that “no one sings like Gaston” as well.

5. Kevin Kline

Boasting a Broadway career that has spanned from 1973 to the present, Kevin Kline is no stranger to the Great White Way. His impressive credits include stints in “The Robber Bridegroom,” “On the Twentieth Century” and “The Pirates of Penzance.” In “Beauty and the Beast,” he’ll be portraying crazy, old Maurice, Belle’s father. He even gets his own song in the movie, called, “How Does A Moment Last Forever.”

6. Sir Ian McKellen

What would “Beauty and the Beast” be without the anxious Cogsworth waddling around the castle trying to keep everyone in line? Fortunately for theatre lovers, this role will be portrayed by the legendary Sir Ian McKellen, who has graced Broadway stages many a time in various drama roles, such as “No Man’s Land” and “Waiting for Godot.”

7. Emma Thompson

Taking on a role originated by the amazing Angela Lansbury is no easy feat, but TV and film favorite Emma Thompson is doing just that in her portrayal of Mrs. Potts. This isn’t the first time this has happened, either, as both of them have portrayed Mrs. Lovett in “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” (at least Mrs. Potts is a tad less sinister). It was no secret that all ears would be on Thompson as she tackled the iconic titular song, but her rendition is definitely giving us all the feels.

Reception to the casting was mixed as plans for the film began to unfold and other well-known actors joined the cast. But Watson’s musical debut is on the horizon, with the film set to waltz into theaters in March.

Here are five reasons why Watson will be perfect as Belle:

1. She Can Sing!

That’s right! There were skeptics galore following Watson’s casting, questioning whether she had the vocal chops to take on several of the film’s popular songs. Even after the trailer for the movie was released, some critics were not convinced. It wasn’t until recently, when Disney finally released a clip of Watson singing from the movie’s upcoming soundtrack, that the rumors were finally put to rest.

2. She Looks Like the Cartoon Come to Life

She could not look more like the animated version of Belle if she tried. It’s as if Disney drew her and she came to life. Early promotional photos released show Watson in Belle’s iconic yellow ball gown, and she’s the spitting image of the original character.

3. She’s a Bookworm

Belle’s character is well-known for being a voracious reader, consuming every book the local library has multiple times over. In fact, she loves books so much that the Beast gives her a library as a present.

Watson is also a reading enthusiast, having studied English Literature at Brown University. She recently started a book club called Our Shared Shelf on Goodreads, where she recommends books centered on equality. She has even taken a page out of the Beast’s book and given the gift of literature to London commuters, leaving copies of one of her favorite books on the Tube for anyone to read.

4. She’s Gutsy

After her father fails to return home, Belle bravely goes after him in the woods and takes his place as a prisoner at the Beast’s castle. But she’s no ordinary prisoner. On multiple occasions, she stands up to the Beast and even shows him kindness and compassion.

Watson has more than enough experience playing a brave, outspoken and kind heroine, thanks to her years as Hermione in the popular Harry Potter franchise. Her Hollywood cohorts speak highly of her kindness and tenacity, with author J.K. Rowling pointing out the likeness between Watson and her Potter character.

Much like Belle, she never backs down from a challenge, becoming the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and continuing her involvement in humanitarian work. While this work has made her a target for threats, she refuses to back down and instead uses the adversity to fuel her continued fight for equal rights.

5. She’s a Feminist

Belle’s character thinks with both her head and her heart. She’s not swayed by the supposed town dreamboat and outright rejects him when he proposes. Instead, she opts to hold out for a man of substance who respects her and isn’t such a blatant misogynist.

A leader in the fight for equality, Watson has shown particular interest in gender inequality. She champions the HeForShe movement, encouraging people of all genders to stand together for equal rights. She’s also a vocal advocate for increased education for women and girls worldwide. Much like Belle, Watson has faced her fair share of criticism and naysayers for her actions, but she continues to charge forward and hold fast to her beliefs.
