Broadway Plays That Need A Revival NOW!

If this is uploaded at the correct time, then it should come out the day I released my first article on Theatre Nerds one year ago.

I have loved every minute of being here and hope to continue. And thanks for your support for the articles, reader!

#2 An Inspector Calls

J.B. Priestly's play is about how we should believe in social responsibility, the idea that we should look out for each other rather than looking out for one's own. In an age where people can get up in the street for absolutely no good reason, we should make sure that we can not just care for the ones we love, we should look out for others. Also revive this show because I'm studying this play in English and there are no productions being played and I want to see it so it can help me get a good grade.

#3 Proof

An identity crisis. Yeah it's not a fun thing to go through. Someday you'll realise that you don't even know who you are anymore and begin to doubt your entire personality. Our main character Catherine goes through one of these after her father dies. She begins to think she'll turn out with the mental illness of her father and she begins to think that she doesn't fit in the field of mathematics and science like her father because she is a woman. Proof is a play reminding us to take a step back and look at who we are.

#4 “Art”

This one is more personal. "Art" is one of my favourite plays of all time, along with War Horse and The Play That Goes Wrong. I don't think enough people know about this play, which is a shame because it is a funny and thought provoking play. And when I say funny, I mean like REALLY funny. It should also get a revival because art as a concept is a great topic to discuss with people (even though it may turn out like "Art" the play itself) and we can weave it into art in theatre, even though the play is about a plain white painting bought for 200,000 euros.

#5 Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

The original fanfiction was on a Shakespeare play. Specifically Hamlet. Tom Stoppard's Broadway debut is both dramatic and comedic. Some Shakespeare revivals get a contemporary setting and I think it might work for this play. The Player can be an over the top theatre nerd with an outfit of swag from thespianswag.com (not sponsored). Also because we have had many revivals of other Stoppard plays on Broadway but not his first, not even a transfer from the West End!

#6 Da

Parents do a lot for us that we usually take for granted. Da is a story of a writer who returns to his childhood home in Ireland and meets ghosts of his parents and has flashbacks to times with people he grew up with that he grew up with, including his two father figures: his adoptive father Da (Irish slang for father) and his cynical civil servant Drumm. We get reminded that parents can do bad things, but their presence will always be a part of your life.

#7 The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby

I hope a revival of this play can make it serve as a period piece for Victorian England. A lot of people think this play can't work in the contemporary theatre landscape and they may be true, the commercial success of the play may diminish its messages about poverty, but a director who can get a story told once before and then retell it as if it were completely new could shape it into something else.

I'm not saying Michael Arden, but Michael Arden.
